This property is featured in the recently published independent and well-regarded
Alastair Sawday's guide,
"Special places to stay" - French holiday homes.
THE HOUSE
The front of the property is approached via a short driveway (also the way to reach one of the two excellent vineyards in Donnazac). There is ample room for car parking within the gated garden.
A stable style door opens into the spacious French style kitchen with a large scrubbed pine table taking centre stage and a cosy sofa. The kitchen is equipped with a Rayburn range, electric oven, gas hob 2 fridges and a dishwasher.
Beyond the kitchen is a study/small lounge which leads out into the walled back garden. Also here to the rear of the house there is a utility room with WC, washing machine and dryer. In addition, there is a large "summer" room with double french doors opening to the rear walled garden. A shady covered area just beyond the summer room is ideal for dining out.
From the kitchen there is access to a further small kitchen area and staircase access to the large twin bedded room & en-suite on the first floor.
The staircase leads from the main kitchen to the sitting-room on the first floor. Two of the bedrooms are also found on this floor- one double bedded with en suite bathroom/WC and pretty views to the rear and another door from the sitting room leads to the aforementioned twin bedroom en-suite.
On the top floor there are two pretty bedrooms up in the eaves, one double and one twin. There is one further bathroom with shower, basin and WC.
The house is equipped with TV (local and some UK satellite channels), hi-fi, telephone/fax
GARDEN & POOL
To the rear of the house is a pretty stone walled section of garden all laid to lawn and offering complete privacy with a lean to sheltered area with table and chairs. To the side of the enclosed garden and stretching quite a way beyond is a larger lawn area. The pool and its surrounding terrace are all enclosed for complete safety and now offers a newly converted covered dining area alongside. This is a lovely tranquil place to sit or have your meals with views across the pool and beyond.
The pool is 10m x 4.5m with Roman steps.

It is under a day's drive from the Channel Ports or about 1 hour from Toulouse International airport (now many flights a day from the UK including an Easyjet service from Gatwick). Budget flight airports Carcassonne and Rodez are not far away. On a wider perspective, the location is central to the Pyrénees, the Mediterranean and Atlantic coasts all of which make for an interesting day away.
The property itself is situated within the Gaillac appellation wine region, about 10 kilometres from the town of Gaillac where you will find all shops, bars and restaurants plus a huge Leclerc Supermarket.
The nearest village/small town is Cahuzac sur Vere with a small supermarket, butcher/baker, bar & Auberge and Cordes which is about a ten minute drive. Cordes is not only one of the best known medieval "bastide" villages in France will also serve as your centre for shopping and restaurants (one of which has a coveted Michelin rosette)
This is an ideal base for exploring this ancient and historic region. Within a 25 kilometre radius are several other fascinating medieval 'bastide' villages. Also about 20 kilometres away is the ancient city of Albi with its famous fortified cathedral and renowned Toulouse Lautrec museum (housing one of the most comprehensive collection of the artist's works).
For the energetic, leisure and sporting facilities to be found locally include tennis, canoeing, rock climbing and fishing. There are 2 excellent equestrian centres in the area and the golf courses at Albi is reputedly first-rate and particularly welcoming to visitors. There is major new action/activity 'Cap Decouverte' just under an hour's drive away at Carmaux - a must for kids of all ages!
